Last week, two Republican senators told FIFA that they wanted Russia kicked out of the 2014 World Cup. Now, in retaliation, deputies in the Russian State Duma have called for the USA’s FIFA membership to be terminated.
One of the Russian deputies wrote on his Twitter page:
“It’s an eye for an eye, a ball for a ball. Don’t let the USA take part in the 2014 World Cup! End their membership of FIFA.”
According to Inside World Football, “Aleksandr Sidyakin and Mikhail Markelov have written an official letter to world football’s governing body, asking for the USA men’s football team to be disqualified from the 2014 World Cup and for their membership of the organization to be terminated.”
So much for the end of the Cold War!
