EPL Week 13 – A Weekend of Comedy Defending

The weekend was a disappointing one for me after seeing Mr. Gomes gifting yet another goal to consign my favorite Spurs to defeat against Fulham. Think Gomes is playing Santa a little too early?? There’s still a month left for Christmas. Well, he wasn’t the only Santa out there. Thomas Sorenson looked even more precarious between the posts for Stoke City. His performance reminded me of what my College Football coach used to tell me when I was a faster leaner version of myself. “Stop running with the ball and take a shot. If you take ten shots, you might actually score one.” If I was playing against Stoke, that’s exactly what I would do.

It was a weekend of errors though and the defenders were competing with the goalkeepers. If it was hilarious to see Tal Ben-Haim replicate Richard Dunne’s performance last weekend. It was funnier to see Hull defender Zayatte return the favour with a fine display of ‘how not to take a first touch.’ Close on their heels though was Gael Clichy who showed us he could be a clinical forward with a header Jan Koller would be proud of if it were at the other end of the field. To say that ‘Arsenal can’t defend set pieces’ isn’t quite the truth. The truth is, they seem to be shaky with anything that flies over six feet in the air.

To complete a weekend of mental football, the usual suspect for comedian of the weekend award, Titus Bramble, was at the other end of the spectrum scoring the equalizer for Wigan against Portsmouth. People may say what they want about the Premier League, but to me, it is the best league to watch as a neutral (well, almost neutral in my case). Why am I writing this?? Well so you can go out there and watch these priceless gaffs in case you missed them. If you saw all the games including these gaffe’s, well, watch them again. Everyone loves a laugh.
