1.3 million viewers for USWNT game against New Zealand

NBCSN netted 1.3 million viewers for the US women’s soccer team’s opening game of the 2016 Rio Olympics.

For the broadcast of Wednesday’s game where the US women won 2-0 against New Zealand, the viewing figure is up 107% from the 2012 London Olympics opener when the United States played France (629,000 viewers).

Commentating the game for NBCSN was the team of Arlo White and Kate Markgraf, while Rebecca Lowe was the studio presenter.

Across NBCOlympics.com and the NBC Sports App, viewers streamed 10.5 million live minutes of Thursday’s Olympics coverage (featuring six women’s soccer matches) — up 84% from the corresponding day at the 2012 London Olympics (5.7 million minutes for six matches).

The U.S. women’s soccer team next faces France this Saturday, August 6 at 4 p.m. ET on NBCSN and Sling Blue (7 day free trial). France defeated Colombia 4-0 yesterday.

The opening ceremony for 2016 Rio Olympic Games is tomorrow, Friday, August 5 at 7:30 p.m. ET/PT on NBC.
