Next 10 Days Crucial for Top Premiership Clubs

While I commented earlier this week on Chelsea’s need to improve their style of play (and confidence) this Saturday and in the Champions League next Tuesday, the other clubs in the four horse race need to be equally as concerned.

Between now and September 17, there’s a good chance that a wider gap may open at the top of the Premiership if results go Man United’s way. For example, if United can beat Spurs on Saturday, who interestingly has never won a Premiership match at Old Trafford, United will find themselves in the driving seat if Arsenal, Liverpool and Chelsea slip up on Sunday, September 17.

Reason being is that Man United will play Arsenal at Old Trafford on that date, who are beatable if the Gunners are unable to solve their lack of goalscoring. So if United manage to beat Spurs this Saturday and Arsenal the following Sunday, the Red Devils will have 15 points and will open up a gap at the top.

And, of course, the English clubs will have some tricky Champions League matches mid-week that could have a difference on the fitness and injury list for the Premiership matches beginning Saturday, September 16.

While Chelsea play Charlton this Saturday, the following Sunday they play Liverpool at Stamford Bridge. With Liverpool’s new firepower playing well, can Crouch, Kuyt and company be the first team to beat Chelsea at home in years?

Note that both Arsenal and Liverpool have played one less match due to Champions League qualifying matches a fortnight ago.

Mark your calendars for Sunday, September 17th as we enjoy two six-pointer matches.
