First nations arrive in France ahead of Euros

Paris (AFP) – Romania and Northern Ireland became the first of the competing nations to arrive in France ahead of Euro 2016 as they landed in the country on Sunday.

Anghel Iordanescu’s Romania side, who will play the hosts in the tournament’s opening game at the Stade de France on Friday, arrived in Paris before making their way to their base in Orry-la-Ville, north of the capital.

Romania will also face Switzerland and Albania in Group A.

Northern Ireland, who will be based in Lyon, arrived later in the day.

Also set to arrive in France on Sunday were Russia and Wales, who head to their base on the Brittany coast after losing 3-0 away to Sweden in a friendly earlier in the day.

The last of the 24 nations to arrive will be Portugal, who play a friendly against Estonia in Lisbon on Wednesday before flying to France on Thursday.
