Brazil Wins Confederations Cup Against Spain While Police Attack Protestors: Nightly Soccer Report

Brazil are the deserved winners of the 2013 FIFA Confederations Cup after convincingly beating Spain 3-0 in the final on Sunday night. The Brazilian team outperformed, outmuscled and outwitted Spain with two goals by Fred and another sublime goal by Neymar.

The performance by Brazil was spectacular — one of the best games I’ve personally seen this year. However, there were ugly scenes outside Maracana Stadium as the police fired tear gas at protesters (see photo below). The Associated Press is reporting that there were 5,000 protestors.
