Arsenal Midfielder Gedion Zelalem About to Jump Off the U.S. Soccer Radar: Nightly Soccer Report

Arsenal midfielder Gedion Zelalem looks set to break the hearts of US soccer fans as he appears set to jump off the US soccer radar to pursue an international career with Germany instead of the United States, according to a report by NBC Sports writer Richard Farley.

The talented midfielder, who made his Arsenal senior debut aged 16 in January, has been called up to Germany’s U-17 squad, and if he plays for that team, he won’t be able to switch to the US for his international playing career.

Farley writes “Germany’s first qualifier is March 26 against Georgia, but given the 18-man squad plays three games in six days, Zelalem is likely to get at least a cap, particularly considering he’s appeared at this level for Germany before.”

As former World Soccer Talk writer Richard Farley says, “Here’s hoping this is the next step in a long and successful soccer career. That it won’t be with the U.S. shouldn’t make it any less relevant.” I agree wholeheartedly.
