Andre Villas-Boas Admits Defiant Hugo Lloris Couldn't Remember Lukaku Blow & Insisted He Stayed On: Nightly Soccer Report

Tottenham manager Andre Villas-Boas admitted Sunday that goalkeeper Hugo Lloris couldn’t remember the blow he received to the head from Romelu Lukaku in the Everton-Spurs match, and that Lloris insisted that he play on in the match.

The surprising revelation from Villas-Boas underpins the argument that English football is not adequately prepared to handle concussions properly. We’ll have more analysis and discussion regarding the topic in tomorrow’s Monday Soccer Insider column, and the EPL Talk Podcast. But, in the meantime, here’s what Villas-Boas said after the match today:

“Hugo still doesn’t remember the incident with Lukaku.

“He lost consciousness there but he seemed assertive and determined to continue and showed great character and personality. We decided to keep him on based on that.”
