Wigan's Callum McManaman Called Up By England For u21 European Championships [VIDEO]

Wigan Athletic right winger Callum McManaman has been called up to England’s u-21 squad for the first time, for next month’s u-21 European Championship in Israel.

The FA Cup winner will be available for England’s three matches in the first round against Italy (June 5), Norway (June 8) and Israel (June 11).

McManaman was originally an Everton player, but here’s what Moyes said yesterday regarding the footballer that he released. “Since we let him go, Callum has had six years to go and develop. He played so well in the FA Cup Final and was rightly awarded Man Of The Match [in the FA Cup Final]. Sometimes, it doesn’t work out and you get released. When you are young, released and you feel unwanted, it is so hard but you must persevere and hope that the day will come when you are picked up. Callum is the perfect example of that.”

Joining McManaman in the England squad is Southampton defender Luke Shaw, who has his chance to make his u-21 national debut next month.

While McManaman and Shaw have been named in the squad, Raheem Sterling hasn’t been included due to a thigh injury.

Here’s the team that England u-21 manager Stuart Pearce named today:

Goalkeepers: Butland (Stoke), Steele (Middlesbrough), Rudd (Norwich)

Defenders: Caulker (Tottenham), Clyne (Southampton), Dawson (West Brom), Lees (Leeds), Rose (Sunderland, loan from Tottenham), Shaw (Southampton), Smith (Tottenham Hotspur), Wisdom (Liverpool)

Midfielders: Chalobah (Watford, loan from Chelsea), Henderson (Liverpool), Ince (Blackpool), Lansbury (Nottingham Forest), Lowe (Blackburn), McEachran (Chelsea), McManaman (Wigan Athletic), Shelvey (Liverpool), Townsend (QPR, loan from Tottenham)

Forwards: Zaha (Crystal Palace, loan from Manchester United), Sordell (Bolton), Wickham (Sunderland)
