Tottenham to Appoint Massimiliano Allegri As Manager In July, Says Report

Tottenham Hotspur will appoint former AC Milan manager Massimiliano Allegri as head coach in July, according to a front cover story in Italian newspaper Corriere dello Sport today.

According to the newspaper, Allegri has agreed financial terms with Tottenham. The Italian has been in London to begin familiarizing himself with the English language, and will officially become boss on July 1st. Allegri will bring his coaching staff with him.

Tottenham Technical Director Franco Baldini was the person who wanted Allegri to join the club. This is the same Baldini who was responsible for wasting £107million on several flops at Tottenham this season, including the £26.4million for Eric Lamela.

After establishing himself as a journeyman footballer in Italy, after playing at 11 different clubs in his 19 year playing career, Allegri went into football management in 2003, managing five clubs until his most recent managerial position with AC Milan, which lasted from 2010-2014. While at AC Milan, he helped the club win the Serie A trophy in the 2010-11 season as well as the Supercoppa Italiana that same year. As a result, he was named Serie A Coach of the Year in the 2010-11 year.

Coincidentally, Allegri managed AC Milan when Tottenham Hotspur eliminated the club from the UEFA Champions League knockout stage.

While Allegri was an established manager in Italy, he was sacked by AC Milan earlier this year after the club were 30 points behind league leaders Juventus.

If the story is true that Allegri is heading to Tottenham, what’s your opinion regarding the appointment? And do you think the Italian can make a difference at White Hart Lane? Share your opinion in the comments section below.
