Dani Alves rejects Barcelona’s latest contract offer, exit looms

Dani Alves’ agent has informed the media that he has rejected Barcelona’s latest contract offer, meaning the defender is edging closer to a summer time exit from the club.

Alves is out of contract at the end of the season and has been free to negotiate with other teams since January.

Last month, the player’s representative, Dinorah Santana, said the right-back was “close to reaching an agreement with another club”.

Almost immediately after that declaration, Barcelona began negotiating an extension with the defender. However, it has been learned today that Alves’ agent has rejected the club’s offer for renewal.

“Barca offered up three years in a format of: one year, plus one, plus one. And we said, ‘no’,” Santana explained.

“We wanted three years but they said, ‘no’. Then we suggested two, plus one with the condition that he would get the final year if he played 70 percent of games in the second season.

“They again said, ‘no’.

“This morning I received an offer by email. Barca said three years if the player plays at least 60 percent each season, if he doesn’t, it won’t continue year-on-year.

“That for me is not three years. It is one year.”

Alves’ agent went on to say that “negotiations have now been closed” and made it clear Barcelona boss Luis Enrique wants the player to remain at the club, provided an acceptable deal can be reached.

Santana closed by saying: “If they offer us two years, plus an optional third, Dani would stay.

“But he is more out than in at the moment because I don’t think they will change their offer.”

Speculation has linked Alves with moves to Paris Saint-Germain, Manchester City and Manchester United in recent months.
