Sam Allardyce 'very proud' to be England manager

London (AFP) – Sam Allardyce said Monday that he was “very proud” to be named England manager and felt confident that he “fitted the chair”.

The 61-year-old Englishman — who succeeds Roy Hodgson, who stepped down after England lost to minnows Iceland in the last 16 of Euro 2016 — refused to confirm Wayne Rooney would remain as captain, saying it was too early to do so.
