Ribery not interested in France return

Berlin (AFP) – Franck Ribery has said he has no intention of playing for France again, according to an interview he gave to Sport Bild.

“I have no desire whatsoever to play for France any more,” said the 33-year-old Bayern Munich winger.

“I closed this chapter with the announcement of my retirement in 2014.

“I’m only thinking about my Bayern career, I feel good here and I’m enjoying my football.”

The former Marseille player represented his country 81 times, scoring 16 goals.

Back in mid-March he had hinted he was open to a France recall, saying he wanted to speak to the national team coach Didier Deschamps first.

But Deschamps replied by pouring cold water on any such notions, saying: “There’s no reason to sacrifice a place for him.”

Ribery claimed his sixth German title this season since joining Bayern in 2007.

Deschamps named his 23-man Euro 2016 squad on Wednesday, along with an eight-man standby list.
