Real Madrid goalkeeper Keylor Navas insists his side will put its heart and soul into winning the club’s 11th European title this season.
The Costa Rican has flourished in the number one role for Los Blancos after a summer filled with speculation regarding his future in the Spanish capital.
Despite constant rumors linking Manchester United goalkeeper David de Gea with a return to Spain — as well as the collapse of a Deadline Day deal which would have seen Navas move to England — the Costa Rica international has remained focused on the pitch and put forth world class performances in front of goal for Real Madrid. Navas has nine clean sheets in all competitions for his club, and Rafa Benitez’s men currently sit on top of La Liga. They are also joint-leaders in their Champions League group with Paris Saint-Germain.

Speaking ahead of Tuesday’s match against PSG at the Bernabeu, Navas stressed that Madrid are fully focused on securing the club’s eleventh European title at the end of the season. From UEFA.com:
“Winning [La Decima] was immense for this club. We all want to win the Champions League again, it’s one of our goals.
“We’re trying to prepare as well as possible for every game so we can get to the final and win. But we have to take it one step at a time because we still have important games in the group stage and the knockout stages.
“We’re putting our heart and soul into reaching the final and winning it.”
When asked about his performances in goal, Navas was quick to deflect praise onto the players protecting him in Real Madrid’s backline:
“The team are doing brilliantly. We’re all doing our bit in terms of defensive work. We know that if we all defend together as a unit – starting with the attackers – it makes it very difficult for our opponents to create anything dangerous.
“We’re following the instructions of the coaching staff and trying to improve in every game.”
Despite many Madrid fans anticipating the arrival of De Gea last summer, Navas has been embraced by Bernabeu supporters after a string of fantastic efforts and eye-popping saves in front of goal. It something that hasn’t gone unnoticed by the Costa Rica international:
“I try to work hard and show the same level of enthusiasm every day to keep my place in the team. Doing that a club like this is a privilege.
“I’m very grateful to everyone. The fans really get behind us. That’s something that motivates you and makes you work all the harder to make the people who come to the stadium happy.”
