GolTV adds Portuguese Cup to its soccer coverage lineup

Taça de Portugal

Taça de Portugal, also known as the Portuguese Cup, will now be available to viewers on the US sports network GolTV through until the end of the 2015-16 season.

GolTV has added the prestigious Portuguese competition soon after announcing a deal to broadcast the Scottish Cup.

The network’s EVP of Programming and Business Develpment, Constantino Voulgaris said regarding the new agreement, “The Portugal Cup perfectly complements our regularly scheduled matches from Portugal’s top-ranked team, Benfica, to further serve passionate Portuguese soccer fans.”

Voulgaris went on to say, “Securing the rights of the Portuguese Cup is part an ongoing strategy; to offer not only the highest quality, but the greatest diversity of leagues, teams and tournaments to our subscribers and affiliate partners.  GolTV is thrilled to feature Portugal’s best teams and matches on a regular basis.”

Founded in 1922, the Portuguese Cup is the main knockout competition in the European country.  Reigning cup holders Benfica, who were victorious in the tournament for the first time in a decade last season, have won the Portuguese Cup a record 25 times.

GolTV is adding the Portuguese Cup to their list of other club competitions including: the German Bundesliga, Brazil’s Brasileirao, Portugal’s Primeira Liga, Uruguay’s Primera Division, and the aforementioned Scottish Cup.  The soccer network also broadcasts OFC Champions League and Copa Centroamerica matches as well.

With many cable and satellite providers ditching GolTV for fellow sports network beIN Sports, viewers can access the soccer channel using fuboTV.  FuboTV is a device that live streams networks like GolTV and beIN Sports (among other sports channels) for a monthly fee.  Once signing up with fuboTV Pro, and receiving a 14-day free trial, the service costs $6.99 per month for its services.

While GolTV has taken a hit recently due to the rise of beIN Sports, the American company is still looking to add more club competitions to their lineup in the near future.
