Former Norwich Defender Elliott Ward Will Aid Bournemouth in Championship

Bournemouth manager Eddie Howe has moved to secure his first signing of the transfer window as the Cherries prepare for their return to the Championship. Despite being backed financially by wealthy Russian owner Maxim Demin, the Cherries have had to be smart in the window as they try to comply with the financial fair play regulations. This has meant that it has been quiet on the transfer front until the capture of former Norwich defender Elliott Ward.

Howe, who fought off numerous teams including Nottingham Forest where Ward spent time on loan last season, has hailed Ward as a significant capture. The centre half will provide much needed competition in the Cherries defence alongside captain Tommy Elphick, Steve Cook, and Miles Addison.

The defender, who has experience in the Premier League, is a 6ft 3 defender who has been troubled by knee injuries. Howe was impressed with Ward throughout last season for his tough tackling nature alongside his passing game, which is known to suit the Cherries down to the ground.

The Cherries faithful will be expecting a few more incomings before the new season begins as the excitement builds up ahead of August 3 where the Cherries open the campaign at home to Charlton Athletic.
