Former Aleti Coach To Lead Argentina?

According to reports coming out of Buenos Aires, pigs are about to fly.

Argentine Football Association president Julio Grondona is ready to negotiate with former Atlético Madrid boss Carlos Bianchi. According to reports, Bianchi is ready to come back to coaching and this would be the ideal situation for him.  This bit of news has made the former Boca coach the top candidate to replace Alfio Basile at the Argentine national team.  For years, both sides were involved in a rift that prevented the former Stade de Reims and Paris-St. Germain star from taking over the national side.  Grondona and Bianchi mentioned separately that they ¨would not mind negotiating¨ with the other side.  For years Bianchi has been mentioned for the spot, but he was always rejected any speculation that came his way.  Now there are conditions that Bianchi has placed, such as having Maradona as far from the national team as possible.  Remember that Bianchi was the coach that set Maradona aside during the final days of El Diego´s career; back then that was one of the ballsiest decisions to make.

In the past few days there were various names being thrown out that included Sergio Batista former teammates Jorge Brown and Diego Maradona as the figurehead for the coaching staff.  Others like San Lorenzo coach Miguel Ángel Russo, River Plate boss Diego Simeone, and even Maradona himself have come up.

Bianchi was the head coach of Atlético Madrid back in 2005, but was given his walking papers after a poor campaign in January of 2006.  Bianchi´s most successful reign was when he coached for both Vélez Sarfield and Boca Juniors to 15 domestic and international titles for both clubs.

Currently Bianchi is a  columist for ESPNDeportes.com as well as a commentator for TV Azteca in Mexico.
