We are in the stretch of the Premier League season where teams begin to solidify their spots in the table. A barrage of games before Boxing Day could allow some teams to build on their position, and other teams could fall back on the table.
Currently, Manchester City’s six-game win streak in the league has Pep Guardiola’s side at the top of the table. Just behind City is Liverpool, which is riding a five-game win streak of its own. If there is any indication of how important each game is, Chelsea sits in third, just two points back of Manchester City.
All three clubs are at home during its midweek fixtures. On Tuesday, City hosts Leeds. Then, on Thursday, Liverpool plays Newcastle and Chelsea faces Everton.
As stated previously, it is that time when teams put a foothold on their position in the table. The teams currently sitting fourth to 11th in the table only have eight points of separation. This week, there are four games between teams in that pack.
Brighton has not won a game since late September, pulling out eight draws in its last 10 EPL games. The club welcomes Wolves on Wednesday.
Also on Wednesday, a crucial London clash between Arsenal and West Ham could prove decisive in the race for European spots. Arsenal trails the Irons by just two points, but is also two position on the table beneath West Ham, which is currently fourth.
Similarly, Tottenham, which has two less games played than most teams in the league due to various COVID-19 issues, is still very much in the mix. Spurs play Leicester, one position behind Antonio Conte’s side.
This week’s Manchester United – Brentford contest was postponed due to COVID-19 cases in the United camp, just like Tottenham over recent weeks.
