Chelsea's Season Comes Down to 2 Massive Matches in 4 Days

While most of the furor on the internet and in the newspapers Tuesday night and Wednesday has been laser focused on the highs and lows of the classic encounter between Liverpool against Arsenal, Avram Grant and his Chelsea side quietly flew under the radar last night and dispatched Fenerbahce to qualify for the Champions League semi-final.

Now that a date is booked against Liverpool in the semi-final, Chelsea finds itself in an incredible position to decide the fate of the two biggest trophies in Europe, the silverware for the Champions League and Premier League.

In the space of four days later this month, Chelsea will play Man United at Stamford Bridge in what may become the Premier League title decider on Saturday, April 26, and will then play the second-leg of the Champions League semi-final against Liverpool three days later on Wednesday, April 30. For the past several weeks, Chelsea has been creeping up very quietly and under the radar of mass media. While the players haven’t been playing the best football of their careers, they’ve been winning key matches and seem to be hitting their stride just at the right time of the season.

Of course, Chelsea’s season could come crashing down in those three days. Such is how close the competition is between the Top Four. One goal could mean the difference between success and failure. One goal could make Avram Grant a hero or victim.

Start practicing your sick day cough now, cancel those plans you already had for that weekend and prepare yourself for another three days of drama, suspense and nail biting. It’s Christmas time in April.
