Shield success start of something big: Ibrahimovic

London (AFP) – Zlatan Ibrahimovic hailed Manchester United’s Community Shield win over Leicester City as the start of something big after the Sweden striker secured the first silverware of the Jose Mourinho era.

Ibrahimovic marked his competitive debut for United in memorable fashion with a towering header in the 83rd minute to clinch a 2-1 victory in the annual curtain raiser to the English top-flight season at Wembley on Sunday.

The 34-year-old, who joined United on a free transfer from Paris Saint-Germain in the close-season, is already one of the world’s most decorated players.

But the former Barcelona and AC Milan star still has a thirst for more trophies and says Mourinho’s men are showing signs of having the winning habit already.

“It feels good. The first official game, we play for a trophy and we win. This is my 31st trophy. I’m super happy. Hopefully I can win much more than this,” Ibrahimovic told BT Sport.

“It was a difficult game. We played against a good team. They were very strong. Something big is going on with our team. We begin with a trophy.

“I feel very good. The team is fantastic. Good team-mates, good spirit. The coach does everything to win. It is probably the biggest club I played in. The only one I can compare it to is Milan.”
