Referee Mark Clattenburg has joined NBC Sports as a new studio analyst in the network’s coverage of the Premier League, World Soccer Talk has learned.
According to a NBC Sports spokesman, “[Clattenburg] will join us periodically throughout the season.”
Clattenburg made his NBC Sports debut appearance on Friday’s pre-match coverage of the West Ham United versus Leicester City game. With his strong Geordie accent, he made an immediate impact providing viewers with rare insight into how referees prepare for games. The Englishman also shared his analysis regarding a few different controversial refereeing decisions from the past several weeks of the season.
The former Premier League referee is currently employed in the Middle East where he has been training match officials.
Clattenburg will star this weekend in NBC’s Premier League Fan Festival, which will be held in New York City.
