Panama vs USA, Costa Rica vs Mexico, Jamaica vs Honduras, Chile vs Ecuador & More: Open Thread

As a soccer viewer, the hardest part about World Cup qualifiers is trying to watch more than one match at once, such is the sheer amount of matches that are available to watch at any given time.

Tonight is no exception as there are seven matches on deck in the CONCACAF and CONMEBOL qualifying rounds for the FIFA World Cup.

As the headline on a newspaper in Mexico reported this morning, “Stop the suffering!” At least, that’s what the people in Mexico are hoping for with a win and some crossed fingers to hope that Mexico qualifies for the World Cup either, ideally, automatically from the CONCACAF group or, next best, via the playoff against New Zealand.

The matches on television and the Internet tonight are:

Uruguay vs Argentina, 7:20pm, beIN SPORT and DishWorld
Chile vs Ecuador, 7:20pm, beIN SPORT Espanol and DishWorld
Paraguay vs Colombia, 7:20pm, beIN SPORT Play
Panama vs USA, 9:30pm, beIN SPORT and DishWorld
Jamaica vs Honduras, 9:30pm, beIN SPORT Espanol and DishWorld
Costa Rica vs Mexico, 9:30pm, Telemundo
Peru vs Bolivia, 10:15pm, beIN SPORT Play

Even if you’re not a subscriber to beIN SPORT, watch any of the above matches including Panama vs USA (except Peru-Bolivia and Paraguay vs Colombia) live on DishWorld. It’s just $10/month with no contract or commitment. Read our review of DishWorld to find out how it works.

World Cup permutations:

CONMEBOL:

Argentina and Colombia have already qualified, while Chile and Ecuador can qualify if they both tie each other in their match tonight, which would send Uruguay into a playoff against Jordan next month. If Uruguay beats Argentina tonight, and Ecuador defeats Chile or Chile defeats Ecuador, it’ll come down to goal difference whether or not Uruguay will automatically qualify or not. Expect a draw between Chile and Ecuador, which means that no matter what Uruguay does, they’ll be in a playoff match.

CONCACAF:

The United States and Costa Rica have already qualified, but the race for third place is between Honduras and Mexico for the automatic qualification spot. Whichever team comes in fourth place will go to a playoff match against New Zealand. All Honduras needs is a point to guarantee automatic qualification. If Jamaica beats Honduras, then Mexico can automatically qualify for the 2014 World Cup with a win and a clear two goals or more, to go through on goal difference. A draw for Mexico will guarantee a playoff spot. Panama, meanwhile, could qualify for a playoff spot with a win against the United States, and if Mexico lose to Costa Rica.
