Mexico manager José Manuel de la Torre, better known as Chepo, will be sacked on Monday after he meets with Mexican Football Federation chief Justino Compeán for crunch talks after a series of disastrous results, according to an anonymous source who spoke to Record.com.mx.
Compeán is expected to end Chepo’s run as manager of the Mexican national team, a job that the former Toluca manager has had since 2011.
Under Chepo, the Mexican team has only one win from six matches in the latest round of 2014 World Cup qualifying. Mexico sits in third place and may not qualify for the FIFA World Cup unless results change. To make matters worse, Mexico was knocked out of the semi-final of the 2013 CONCACAF Gold Cup earlier this week against Panama.
Results aside, the Mexican national team is playing with with little to no confidence. Bringing in a new manager at this stage of World Cup qualifying is risky, but new fresh blood could be just what Mexico needs right now to improve their performances.
