Former Brighton manager Gus Poyet has emerged as the frontrunner to become the next manager of Sunderland Football Club.
According to The Guardian newspaper, Poyet has had positive talks with Sunderland owner Ellis Short. However a decision isn’t expected to be reached until at least 48 hours, and isn’t expected until next week.
Sunderland caretaker manager Kevin Ball, who managed the Black Cats to victory last night against Peterborough in the League Cup, will be in charge of the team for this weekend’s Premier League match against Liverpool.
It’s understood that Sunderland are planning on doing due diligence on Poyet before an offer will be made. The Uruguayan was sacked by Brighton in June, and Poyet found out about the dismissal on live television. Both the club and Poyet are currently tangled in a legal dispute.
