Former USWNT Star Mia Hamm Named To AS Roma's Board Of Directors

In an official announcement from AS Roma, former United States national team star Mia Hamm has been named to the Serie A club’s board of directors.

Hamm, 42, is a two-time FIFA World Player of the Year and the first woman to be inducted into the World Football Hall of Fame. While playing for the USWNT, she helped lead the team to two World Cup titles and three Olympic medals.

She retired from football ten years ago and is among several newcomers to the board at the Stadio Olimpico.

“The new board is a diverse and committed group of industry leaders from international investment, marketing and sports sectors,” the statement from Roma reads.

“They will work with ownership and management toward the continued mission of making AS Roma one of the world’s greatest football clubs, on and off the field.”

The Italian giants were bought by a group of four Boston executives three years ago and Richard D’Amore, a member of that group, rejoined the board. Former club president Thomas DiBenedetto and New York lawyer Joe Tacopina, who recently became president of second-division club Bologna, left the board.

Board members serve three-year terms.

Roma is currently second in Serie A with 19 points, three points behind league leading Juventus. Their next match will be tomorrow (October 29th) at home to Cesena.
