Euro 2016

Euro 2016 pitch will be 'good' but 'not excellent'

Paris (AFP) – The Stade de France pitch for the Euro 2016 final will be good but not excellent, a top UEFA official warned Tuesday.

The pitches at three Euro venues have been criticised and the Lille pitch had to be relaid in mid-tournament.

The pitches at Marseille, to be used for Thursday’s semi-final between France and Germany, and the Stade de France have also been attacked by coaches.

UEFA operations director Martin Kallen said the Stade de France pitch for the France-Iceland game on Sunday was “much better” and it would be treated further before Sunday’s final.

“It will not be excellent of excellent but it will be good,” added the official.

Kallen said the pitch for Thursday’s semi-final would be “the best pitch in Marseille since the beginning.”

The poor conditions forced UEFA to move the final stadium training before several Euro 2016 games.
