Andrea Pirlo revealed as New York City FC player on club website

New York City FC’s very own website revealed that Juventus and Italy legend Andrea Pirlo has joined the club, according to a page that was on its website on Tuesday night but was later removed after the details spread throughout social media.

By accidentally publishing the page to the public, New York City FC confirmed what most have been speculating for a short while now, that Pirlo has joined the New York MLS team.

Underneath a short bio for the Italian midfielder, the webpage listed his acquisition date as June 30. The rest of the page listed Pirlo’s former clubs and a blank section for stats from MLS. The picture included in the player bio also included the midfielder’s shirt number, 21.

Rumors of a potential move to MLS started to surface following Juventus’ loss to Barcelona in the recent UEFA Champions League final, but Pirlo stated that his emotional reaction to the loss had nothing to do with saying goodbye to his former club but was all due to losing the title.

Pirlo was seen in New York City last week and attended the team’s recent home game against city rivals, New York Red Bulls.

The Italian midfielder has had a prolific career and has won almost every trophy available in modern soccer including multiple Serie A titles, Champions League and a World Cup trophy. Pirlo is seen as one of the best midfielders of his generation and would be a big asset for NYCFC who are still out of playoff contention in MLS’s East division. With David Villa starting to settle in and Frank Lampard on the way to New York the three NYCFC D.P.’s are expected to put the team over the top.
