Manchester United narrowly edge a struggling Leicester City, 1-0

Manchester United clung to a 1-0 at the King Power to beat Leicester City on Thursday. Jadon Sancho’s 23rd-minute goal provided the Red Devils their third win on the bounce.

The English international, who scored the opener against Liverpool in matchday three, rounded Leicester goalkeeper Danny Ward to slot home the eventual winner. The win is United’s second 1-0 win on the road in the last six days.

Manchester United squeaks by Leicester City

Manchester United entered Thursday’s match a bit of a high. After failing to grab a point in the first two games of the season, United bounced back with wins against Liverpool and Southampton. 

Leicester, on the other hand, struggled in its first four games of the season. A three-game losing skid threatened to be four with United coming to town. That came true on Thursday. Clearly, the Foxes are a talented team on paper, despite losing Wesley Fofana to Chelsea. However, Brendan Rodgers failed to get his player to gel together properly.

United did not necessarily put in a dominating performance. Yet, neither the club nor the fans mind. Three points is what they came for, and they got it. In the end, Leicester had more possession, shots and passes on the night. Manchester United’s back line prevented Leicester from finding the back of the net.

The Foxes closest chance at goal came from a James Maddison free kick early in the second half. United goalkeeper David de Gea made a sprawling save to keep the powerful shot out of the top corner of the net.

Throughout the game, fans and viewers followed the transfer deadline news. Even then, United and Cristiano Ronaldo quelled any rumors of the Portuguese departure as he joined the squad from the King Power. Ronaldo did not start for the third game running. He did make a substitute appearance with a third of the game to play.

Both clubs have a quick turnaround to the weekend on Sunday. Manchester United welcomes league leaders Arsenal to Old Trafford. Leicester look to right the ship on the road to Brighton on the same day.
