Ten Hag sees Christian Eriksen as key at Manchester United

Christian Eriksen could make a return to the big stage with Manchester United seeking the Dane’s services.

According to Sky Sports, Manchester United made contact with Eriksen’s representatives over a contract at Old Trafford. SkySports reporter Dharmesh Sheth says that Erik Ten Hag has funds available for transfers. Yet, Eriksen checks all the statistical boxes that the new manager wants. For him, it is not about spending the most money on the flashiest name. Instead, it is about getting the right player at the right price.

Currently, Christian Eriksen is a free agent, with Manchester United and Brentford all hoping to land him. Eriksen performed well in the Premier League last season with Brentford. Despite major, and well-warranted concerns over the Denmark international’s health, Eriksen picked up four assists and a goal in 11 appearances with Brentford.

However, Eriksen appears to want a bigger challenge and a bigger stage than the Brentford Community Stadium.

For now, that seems to be a revitalized Christian Eriksen. Remember, it was just a year ago now that Eriksen collapsed in the group stage game against Finland at Euro 2020. At the time, it appeared that Eriksen would never play the game again.

Chrsitian Eriksen to Manchester United?

Now, Eriksen looks to be part of the rebuild at Manchester United. Tottenham, the club Eriksen represented prior to moving to Inter Milan in 2020, was also in on the Dane’s sweepstakes. However, Tottenham pulled out of their interest in signing the midfielder.

That leaves Manchester United and Brentford as Christian Eriksen’s potential homes. With Brentford preparing for a second season in the Premier League, Eriksen’s return to full fitness would work well for the bees.

Still, Eriksen showed his class during his time at Tottenham and Inter Milan. Plus, he is instrumental to Denmark’s success at the international level. He has the quality to fit in with a top side, and new Manchester United manager Erik Ten Hag is an admirer of what Eriksen is able to do.

Christian Eriksen would be the natural replacement if Manchester United fails to land Barcelona midfielder Frenkie De Jong.

It comes down to the player’s decision. Trusted journalist and transfer guru Fabrizio Romano says Tottenham is focused on defense and a backup striker. Therefore, midfield is not their area of concern. Thomas Frank is not giving up on keeping Eriksen, despite the lure of Europa League from United or Champions League from Tottenham.
