Argentina vs. Italy on TV: Coverage details

Argentina vs Italy, known as Finalissima 2022, is on TV in the United States on Wednesday, June 1.

FS1 is hosting the game as the signaling of a new era for the channel. FOX acquired the rights to the European Championship and UEFA Nations League back in late November 2021. To kick off the beginning of that six-year deal, FS1 is broadcasting a game between the winner of Euro 2020 and the 2021 Copa América.

Italy, which beat England on penalties in the Euro 2020 Final, returns to Wembley. Its opponent is Argentina, which captured its Copa América win since 1993. Plus, that was Lionel Messi’s first major international trophy.

Previously, the host of the CONMEBOL-UEFA Cup of Champions was one of the victors of the continental cup. However, Wembley Stadium has a history of hosting major games, including the Euro 2020 Final.

Finalissima 2022

This one-off game between the European and South American champions is not the first time. That being said, it is the first time this game has happened since 1993. That year, Argentina defeated European champions Denmark in Mar del Plata, Argentina. Eight years prior, France defeated Uruguay in Paris for the first type of this game.

The trophy handed out remains the same. However, the game comes as a result of the memorandum of understanding between UEFA and CONMEBOL. Increased animosity between these federations and FIFA sparked the resumption of this game. Yet, it seems welcome from fans and broadcasters alike. After all, this will be Italy’s biggest game of the year. Plus, it is a chance for Argentina fans to see Lionel Messi win another trophy. Albeit, this one is considerably less important in the grand scheme of history.

On Wednesday afternoon, John Strong and Stu Holden are on the call on FS1. Studio coverage is also available before and after the game. Holden joins Alexi Lalas as analysts with Rob Stone as the host.

FS1 is now the home of international soccer in the United States. As stated previously, the FOX family of channels broadcasts the Copa América, European Championship, and the World Cup. Plus, it has rights to the Gold Cup and select games in CONCACAF World Cup Qualifying.
