There are only eight games in the Premier League this weekend, despite the ramping excitement of the title race and top four. Manchester United, Manchester City and Brighton and Hove Albion are all involved in the FA Cup semifinals at Wembley. Therefore, they are all out of league commission. Chelsea fans drew the short straw, as the Blues are out of action this week. They were supposed to play Manchester United at Old Trafford, but that game is postponed.

In terms of what is available this weekend, the focus is perhaps on the relegation battle. That starts, ironically, with Southampton at the bottom of the Premier League table. The Saints, desperate for points, have to travel to the Emirates to face the league leaders in Arsenal. There are three games between teams that could be in the relegation battle. The best of that bunch is arguably Leicester City against Wolves.

Then, back in the positive half of the table, there are two big games for final placement. Brentford’s dip in form might take it out of Europe, but that won’t stop Aston Villa from taking the Bees seriously. Five-straight wins have Villa fighting for a Europa League spot.

The team currently in fifth is Tottenham Hotspur, which will still think it can get back into the UEFA Champions League. To do that, a win over Newcastle United at St. James’s Park would go a long way. But, that is clearly no easy task. Newcastle has dropped just eight points from a possible 42 at home this season.

NBC coverage this weekend
