Premier League Clubs Expected to Approve Goal-Line Technology to Begin Use Next Season

The Football Association expect the Premier League clubs to approve goal-line technology, with the technology set to be launched in the Premier League beginning with the 2013-14 season.

The Premier League clubs meet on Thursday to discuss several agenda items including Financial Fair Play.

If approved, there’s no guarantee that the Premier League will use the GoalControl goal-line technology that FIFA approved last week. The FA and Premier League are working on a joint deal to have the technology installed and maintained at all 20 Premier League grounds as well as Wembley Stadium. In the bidding process, GoalControl is competing against HawkEye, GoalRef and CAIROS.

The FA wants the technology to be in place for the Community Shield at Wembley in August, while the Premier League clubs want the technology ready for the 2013-14 season. In the FA Cup, the plan is to have the goal-line technology used from the third round onwards in any stadium fitted with the system.

Which of the four competing goal-line technology systems would you like to see selected by the FA and Premier League? Do you think there could be a controversy if FIFA is using one system for the Confederations Cup and World Cup, and the world’s most popular sports league is using a different one?
