Hope Solo

New video shows Hope Solo on night of DWI arrest

Police officer video footage detailing the arrest of Hope Solo is now available to the public. Reporters from Queen City News, the FOX affiliate in Charlotte, NC, went through a lengthy legal fight to acquire the body camera footage stemming from Solo’s arrest.

The Winston-Salem Police Department near Charlotte, NC, arrested the former United States Women’s National Team star goalkeeper on the night of March 31, 2022. Solo was allegedly asleep in her car in a Walmart parking lot. She had her two children in the backseat.

Initially resisting the police officers’ commands, the officers pulled Solo out of her vehicle. Officers said they could smell a ‘sweet aroma,’ despite Solo claiming she did not have any alcohol.

When the officers took Solo in, her blood alcohol content tested at .24, three times the legal limit. Additionally, Solo tested positive for THC-9, the active ingredient in Marijuana.

Despite the police department and attorneys fighting to keep the body camera video private, the public can now see the arrest of Hope Solo.

Queen City News released the clips of the arrest in a special segment, “Hope Lost,” shown below.

In the above segment, Queen City News describes the challenge of obtaining the body camera footage. The station sued the police department and met with the officials to request the video on seven separate times before it received the recordings. Reason being, North Carolina police videos are not public records.

Hope Solo’s defense attorneys sat alongside police and Winston-Salem City attorney Lori Sykes. The defenders of the video wanted to protect Solo’s right to a fair trial, the identities of her children and the reputation of Hope Solo.

For many, Hope Solo’s reputation is that of elite goalkeeper for the USWNT. She helped the side to a World Cup title in 2015, as well as a runner-up finish in 2011. Plus, she is a two-time Olympic gold medalist.

Solo’s career ended unceremoniously in 2016 after she said the Sweden national team played like a “bunch of cowards.” Sweden defeated the USWNT in the Olympic quarterfinals at Rio 2016.

Earlier this year, Hope Solo launched a podcast on SiriusXM FC just weeks before the arrest.
