Harry Kane delays contract talks with Tottenham

Tottenham Hotspur will have to be patient to hold talks with superstar striker Harry Kane over a new contract. Evening Standard is reporting that the 29-year-old forward wants to wait until after the World Cup to resume any discussions about a deal.

Kane, approaching 300 appearances with Spurs, has just 18 months left on his current contract. Wages earn the England No. 9 about $230,000 per week. He last signed a fresh deal in 2018. Previously, he pushed to depart the North London outfit. Nevertheless, these feelings apparently subsided once Spurs signed Antonio Conte as their new manager in 2021.

Bayern Munich expressed interest in bringing over Harry Kane to the German giants. In fact, Bayern’s head coach Julian Nagelsmann even openly spoke about Kane in a press conference this past summer.

“[Kane] could score a lot in the Bundesliga,” proclaimed Nagelsmann. “I don’t know the price, but it’s really tough for Bayern Munich. We’ll see what happens in the future.”

However, Spurs managing director Fabio Paratici remains optimistic on securing his star player a new deal. “Kane is the symbol of this club, the best scorer in history and captain of England,” stated Paratici. “We are confident and always in contact. There is a great relationship between him and the club, we are very optimistic.”

Harry Kane contract talks on hold with Tottenham

Kane has spent his entire senior career under contract at Spurs, spending a handful of seasons out on loan. During his impressive run, he has managed to racked up an incredible 193 Premier League goals. This is already good enough for third-most in England’s top flight since it reformed in 1992. The Spurs captain is also keeping his prolific scoring going, as Kane has already scored 10 goals in just 12 league games during the current campaign.

Also captaining England, Kane will look to lead his country to a World Cup title in Qatar. The Three Lions face a tough group alongside the United States, Wales, and Iran though. England is currently ranked fifth by FIFA. Once the tournament is over, it will be interesting to see if Kane continues talks with Spurs over a new deal.
