Germany Crash Out Of World Cup To Dominant Spain

Joachim Loew’s side were out-classed against a Spain side that just didn’t lose possession of the ball. Spain, up to this point in the tournament, have done very little to show fans why they are favourites to win the tournament. Today, though, Spain turned on the style and totally contained Germany’s counter-attacking threat.

A goal from Barcelona captain Carles Puyol was all Spain needed to progress into the final of the World Cup for the very first time, where they will meet the Netherlands, another side who has never won the title.

Germany sat back in their own half and allowed Spain to control the play, but Germany were unable to win the ball off of Spain’s midfielders, and once they did, the German counter-attack that was so useful against Argentina and England was shut down very quickly by Busquets and Xabi Alonso, who closed down Germany’s players very quickly. With chances being few and far between for both sides, it only took one goal to win the game for Spain.

Joachim Loew’s side still must be praised for the wonderful tournament they have had thus far, and with all the young talent in the side, this German side could be challenging for the World Cup trophy for years and years to come.
