In a very entertaining first leg of the Spanish Super Cup on Sunday night, Barcelona striker David Villa scored a simply sensational goal (see above video) in the game which ended 2-2.
With Real Madrid controlling the majority of the possession in the first half and Barcelona unable to play their trademark ticky-tacky brand of football, it seemed that Los Blancos were going to win this game. But of nowhere, David Villa went on the attack down the left side of the pitch and then struck an unbeatable shot that zoomed into the corner of the net, past the reach of Real Madrid goalkeeper Iker Casillas.
Villa’s spectacular shot tied the game for Barcelona after Mesut Ozil scored earlier in the game (13th minute). Subsequent goals by Lionel Messi (Barcelona) and Xabi Alonso (Real Madrid) ended the game at 2-2.
While Barcelona will be confident going into the second leg on Wednesday (shown live on Wednesday 5pm ET on ESPN Deportes, ESPN3.com and GolTV), Real Madrid will have a fighting chance especially the way they played in the first half and near the end of the second half.
What’s your opinion regarding Villa’s goal? And who do you think played better in this game — Barcelona or Real Madrid?
