Alex Morgan and the US Women's Soccer Team Go For The Gold [VIDEO]

It’s not often that we stray off topic and focus on a footballer or event that isn’t Premier League-related. But since EPL Talk is based in the United States, and since the 2012 Summer Olympic women’s soccer final is today at Wembley (2:45pm ET on NBC Sports Network), we trust that you don’t mind us focusing on a topic that is near and dear to our heart — the US women’s quest for the gold medal in their game against Japan today.

If you’ve had a chance to watch the US women’s soccer team participate in this tournament, you’ll have been amazed by the wonderful talent on display — from Abby Wambach (who has been compared by the UK press to a female version of an Alan Shearer in his prime), to the incredibly skillful Megan Rapinoe bombing down the right wing, and of course to the wonderful Alex Morgan, who has been such an inspiration with her dazzling dribbles down the left wing.

Morgan, who lends some comparisons to Ryan Giggs in his prime (so much so that Alex Morgan wore a Manchester United jersey recently), is such an inspiration. Yes, she’s a beautiful women, but she (and her teammates) are really such a wonderfully talented set of individuals who have overcome many obstacles such as losing against France and Canada, only to come back and win those matches.

Alex Morgan and the US women’s soccer team faces Japan today in a rematch of the last Women’s World Cup Final where Japan persevered and won the match. There’s nothing like a rematch. And there’s no one quite like Alex Morgan.

This post is brought to you by one of EPL Talk’s sponsors, AT&T, whose Olympic video series “My Journey” spotlights seven U.S. athletes’ road to the 2012 London games. You can see Alex Morgan’s video here as well as check out the rest of AT&T’s spotlighted Olympians.
