Uruguayan striker Luis Suarez is a doubt for this summer’s World Cup after news spread that he is to undergo keyhole surgery today to repair damage to his meniscus.
Experts say that it can take anywhere from 15 days to a minimum of four weeks before Suarez can return to full fitness. The length of his absence will depend on the extent of his injury, which will be known today after the surgery is completed.
Uruguay are scheduled to play Costa Rica on June 14, England on June 19 and Italy on June 24.
Suarez is expected to be one of the stars of World Cup 2014 after a successful season with Liverpool in the Premier League. If Suarez won’t recover in time, this will deal a huge blow to Uruguay’s chances of advancing from Group D and will boost the confidence of the defenders on the England, Italy and Costa Rica teams.
