Luka Modric will extend his contract with Real Madrid. Reports claim that the Croatian has reached a total agreement with the Spanish Giants. As per Spanish media outlet Relovo, the 37-year-old and the club have agreed upon the contract-length and salary that has been suggested.

Modric will to sign the paperwork in the coming days. This should take place before the first leg of the Champions League semifinal against Manchester City. However, he remains a doubt for the crucial encounter through a thigh injury. The new deal will see the Croatian stay in the club’s second salary scale. This leaves him behind only the likes of Eden Hazard and Karim Benzema.

There were earlier rumors that Modric could leave the club. He was linked with a chance to join his former teammate Cristiano Ronaldo in Saudi Arabia. However, recent developments have squashed those claims. President Florentino Perez moved to reassure him that a new contract was forthcoming.

Luka Modric always intended to stay in Spain

Modric always made it clear that it was his intention to stay for as long as his age and physique allows. The midfielder had earlier said in March, “I hope and believe I will stay at Real Madrid.”

Modric joins Toni Kroos as the latest player to have extended his contract for another year following in the footsteps of the German who signed a similar deal last summer.

Jude Bellingham’s imminent arrival hasn’t impacted Modric’s future

The Bernabeu outfit also believes that the duo will help ease Jude Bellingham into the squad. This is dependent on if and when the English midfielder joins the club.

Real are in pole position favorites to land the Borussia Dortmund player with reliable transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano claiming that the two clubs are prepared to meet to negotiate the fee for the 19-year-old. Bellingham also has agreed personal terms with the reigning Champions League winners.
