Jurgen Klopp is widely regarded as one of the most influential coaches of the 21st century—not just for his trophies, but for the lasting impact he’s had at every club and league he’s touched. Now, his return to the sidelines appears closer than ever, as reports suggest the German manager has agreed to join a European club under specific conditions.

Klopp announced his departure from Liverpool in January 2024, choosing to step away from coaching when his contract expired in June. But just four months later, in October, he surprisingly accepted a new role as Red Bull’s Head of Global Soccer.

In that position, Klopp oversaw all Red Bull-owned clubs and affiliated teams, including Leeds United and Paris FC. In fact, he was present for Paris FC’s final match of the Ligue 2 season, which secured their promotion to France’s top division. However, that role may now be in conflict with what appears to be his next chapter.

According to Italian outlet La Stampa, Jurgen Klopp has agreed to become the next head coach of AS Roma. The Italian capital club has endured a tumultuous season, cycling through three different managers, and the German tactician is reportedly being lined up to take charge for the 2025–26 campaign.

On Sunday, during Roma’s home match against AC Milan at the Stadio Olimpico, fans bid farewell to Claudio Ranieri, who briefly came out of retirement to guide the club through a difficult stretch. Now, all signs point to Klopp as the next man to take the reins—with a potential Champions League berth still on the line.

Klopp’s conditions for taking over Roma

AS Roma boasts a promising squad led by Argentine star Paulo Dybala and currently sits fifth in Serie A. They remain within striking distance of fourth place—occupied by Juventus with just a one-point advantage—which would secure Champions League qualification.

Regardless of the final standings, La Stampa reports that Klopp has already laid out clear expectations for his tenure. The German manager has reportedly requested six new signings: three players to serve as key starters and three as reliable backups. Additionally, he has asked for two players from Roma’s Primavera (youth) squad to be evaluated during preseason training.

Dybala has been the club’s marquee signing in recent years, but now Roma’s American owner, Dan Friedkin, is putting his faith in Klopp to become the architect of a new and successful era in the Eternal City.
