The deal for Spanish-Dutch defender Dean Huijsen to join Real Madrid is all but complete. The clubs are now exchanging documents, and only the final timing for the official announcement remains. While it can’t yet be called a “done deal” until everything is signed, MARCA has learned that the agreement is finalized.

Real Madrid will activate Huijsen’s release clause from Bournemouth: £50 million (approximately €59.3 million), payable in three installments. As part of the agreement, 10% of any future profit will go to Juventus, Huijsen’s former club. His youth clubs, including Málaga, San Félix, and Juventud de Torremolinos, will share 5% of the total transfer under UEFA’s solidarity mechanism. Born in Amsterdam in 2005, Huijsen spent key developmental years in Spain.

Madrid’s need: Youth, reliability, and immediate impact

The move has been fast-tracked for multiple reasons. Although there were initial concerns at Madrid regarding Huijsen’s physical attributes, his performances in the Premier League have dispelled those doubts. The club sees him as a guaranteed, young central defender who is ready to contribute immediately. Given the injuries to David Alaba and others, the need to refresh the position is urgent.

One key factor: Real Madrid hopes to register Huijsen between June 1 and 10, during FIFA’s transfer window, in order to include him in the FIFA Club World Cup squad. The advantage? There was no need to negotiate with Bournemouth—just pay the clause, and it’s done.

Real Madrid beat Chelsea and seven other clubs

Dean Huijsen had eight serious offers on the table. Chelsea were extremely close to signing him—until Real Madrid came calling, and that changed everything. A quiet but determined personality, Huijsen has been set on playing for a Spanish giant since his youth days in Málaga. Now, that dream is becoming a reality.

Before signing with Juventus, Huijsen had already been close to Madrid. His father, Donny—himself a former footballer—visited Real Madrid’s training center at Valdebebas in February 2021. Although Juventus promised him first-team opportunities back then, the timing wasn’t right. Now it is. And while the official signature is still pending, Dean Huijsen is about to become a Madridista—though, in football, nothing is certain until it’s signed.
