Lionel Messi shocked Argentina fans with the news that he would miss the CONMEBOL World Cup Qualifiers against Uruguay and Brazil due to a last-minute injury. After the disappointing news, Messi took to social media to explain the reasons behind his absence.

The Argentine star sustained a minor injury to his left hamstring during Inter Miami’s Sunday match against Atlanta United, which has been enough to sideline him for the upcoming international break. Messi addressed the situation on Instagram, explaining why he will miss these crucial matchups:

It’s a shame to miss these two very special matches with the National Team against Uruguay and Brazil. As always, I wanted to be there, but at the last moment, a not-so-serious injury that forces me to stop for a while before returning to play left me out,” Messi explained on his Instagram account.

The Argentina captain expressed his disappointment at not being able to participate, but also left an encouraging message for his teammates: “From here, I will be cheering and supporting as just another fan. Vamos Argentina!,” he concluded his message.

Argentina is set to face Uruguay on Friday, March 21, and will host Brazil on Tuesday, March 25. Despite sitting comfortably in first place with 25 points, fans were eager to see Messi, especially considering he might be nearing the end of his international career.
