FC Barcelona have taken a cautious approach in the transfer market this summer, prioritizing reinforcements on the left wing. Now, multiple reports suggest Marcus Rashford is set to join the La Liga giants. Following a sour exit from Manchester United, details of Barcelona’s reported buy option for Rashford have emerged.

After a falling out with new United manager Ruben Amorim, Rashford was loaned out to Aston Villa in January, casting further doubt over his long-term future at Old Trafford. With the relationship deemed beyond repair, Amorim reportedly encouraged the forward’s exit—and Barcelona appear to be the club that pushed hardest for his signature.

According to Marca, Rashford is expected to arrive at Barcelona on a loan deal that includes a €35 million purchase option—significantly lower than the €50 million valuation previously sought by United, which matched his Transfermarkt value. If no last-minute changes occur, that figure will stand.

But the transfer didn’t hinge on price alone. Rashford renewed his contract in 2023 through 2028 and is currently among the highest-paid players in the Premier League, earning €18 million per season. That salary posed a major hurdle for Barva. However, reports say the English forward agreed to reduce his wage demands, clearing the way for the deal to move forward.

With only minor formalities remaining, Rashford is just hours away from becoming a Barcelona player. He is expected to arrive in the coming days to undergo a medical and join the squad for their preseason tour in Asia.

Rashford chosen over Luis Díaz

Barcelona’s need for a left winger has been urgent, prompting the club to consider Rashford as early as January. This summer, Liverpool’s Luis Díaz was initially identified as the top target by head coach Hansi Flick and sporting director Deco. But Rashford ultimately emerged as the more attainable option.

Liverpool proved difficult negotiating partners, reportedly rejecting Bayern Munich’s offer of €70 million for Díaz. That made a summer move increasingly unlikely—especially one that could be completed in time for preseason. With Flick eager to have his full squad ready for the Asia tour, Rashford’s availability and willingness to compromise on salary made him the faster, more realistic solution.
