Billy Beane may have been the general manager of Major League Baseball’s Oakland Athletics, but my discussion with him shows that a large part of his sporting heart lies in the footballing world.
On this edition of the podcast, Beane joins Richard Farley to talk about his favorite club, Tottenham Hotspur, his path to soccer fandom, and the analogies between baseball and soccer – particularly is it concerns the current trends in soccer performance analysis.

Recorded in 2010, the Billy Beane interview stands the test of time. In the period after the interview was conducted, Billy Beane was hired by Dutch club AZ Alkmaar as an advisor in 2015. Then in 2017, Billy Beane became part of a consortium led by Ligue 1 club Nice owner Chinese/American businessman Chien Lee to purchase Barnsley Football Club in the English Championship division.
