Sunderland is among the clubs making a US tour this summer, and tickets are now available. Best known of late as the stars of the hit Netflix series, Sunderland have fallen on hard times in the last several years. After playing in the Premier League in 2016/17, the Black Cats fell all the way to League One.

Sunderland ‘Til I Die, a documentary providing an inside look at the club, was a hit in the United States, and that makes the upcoming friendlies for Sunderland in the United States that much more intriguing.

Sunderland is playing three friendlies on its summer tour. While the Premier League teams involved in the summer friendlies in the United States are playing fellow European teams, Sunderland faces lower-league US soccer teams. In a seven-day span, Sunderland is playing against two teams in the USL Championship and a USL League One side. Those are New Mexico United, San Antonio FC and North Carolina FC. The venues are the home stadiums for each of the American sides.

Tickets to those Sunderland games in the US are available now.

Tickets to Sunderland US tour

If those games are in your area, there is good reason to check out Sunderland in the United States. Granted, the club is not in the Premier League. But, by the end of the season, it could be. Sunderland is one point outside the promotion playoff spots. Yet, the Black Cats have played one or two more games than some of the teams above them in the table.

Still, with three games remaining in the Championship, Sunderland could make a push. At the same time, the friendlies in the United States could set the tone for Sunderland’s upcoming campaign. Even if it is not in the Premier League, the Championship is still entertaining.

Therefore, the friendlies involving Sunderland against some of the lower-level US teams can help grow Sunderland’s popularity Stateside.
