Hit documentary series Sunderland ‘Til I Die will return for a new season. The show follows players and coaches of Sunderland A.F.C., as well as their fans. The club, once a mainstay in the Premier League, works to get back into the top flight.

Leo Pearlman, a partner in production company Fulwell 73, explained the upcoming season to British broadcasting network ITV. “This time we are purely focusing on the playoff win from last season,” stated Pearlman.

”There will be two episodes that look at the incredible finale to the season with the playoff semi-finals and the playoff win against Wycombe at Wembley.”

Also, Pearlman announced that the upcoming third season will be the final installment of the show. “We are ending Sunderland ‘Til I Die on a high,” claimed the executive.

New Sunderland ‘Til I Die season

Sunderland finished fifth in the League One table during the 2021/22 campaign. However, they did progress all the way to the promotion playoff final, as Pearlman alluded to. After four seasons in England’s third tier, the Black Cats gained promotion back to the Championship with a victory against Wycombe in May.

The northern England team currently finds themselves in the middle of the Championship standings. Sunderland won four of their first 13 league matches back in the second tier.

Sunderland ‘Til I Die originally released in 2018 on Netflix. Back then the club suffered relegation out of the Premier League. It hoped the documentary chronicled its rise back the Premier League. However, things did not go as planned. A season after finishing bottom of the Premier League, Sunderland finished bottom of the Championship. Consequently, the club sunk down to League One.

Essentially, the third season of the program is a miniseries. There will only be two episodes in the final season of the show. Although plans for the final season have been introduced, a release date has not yet been announced.
