Barcelona kicked off the 2025/26 LaLiga season with a convincing 3-0 victory over Mallorca at Son Moix, immediately placing themselves among the league leaders. The win not only extends their domestic dominance—after sweeping LaLiga, the Copa del Rey, and the Spanish Super Cup last season—but also sets the tone for what could be another strong campaign under Hansi Flick.
The good news didn’t stop there. Just hours before the match, Robert Lewandowski returned to training after dealing with muscle discomfort that had sidelined him since August 8.
Flick chose to rest the Polish striker against Mallorca, handing Ferran Torres the starting role. The Spaniard didn’t disappoint, scoring one of the team’s three goals, with Raphinha and Lamine Yamal netting the others.
Lewandowski’s impact and recovery
While Ferran Torres stepped up, there’s no denying that Lewandowski’s experience and goal-scoring ability are irreplaceable. At 36 years old, the forward continues to produce at an elite level. In the 2024/25 campaign, he scored 42 goals and registered 3 assists in 52 appearances, leading Barça deep into the Champions League, where they reached the semifinals.

With his recovery progressing well, the expectation is that Lewandowski will be available for Barcelona’s next LaLiga fixture. If there are no setbacks, Flick could count on him when the Blaugrana face Levante on Saturday, August 23, at the Ciutat de València Stadium.
