Manchester United have rejected Chelsea’s initial bid of £10million for Wayne Rooney plus either Juan Mata or David Luiz, according to BBC Sport.

The Old Trafford club remain insistent that Rooney is not for sale.

Wayne Rooney returned to Manchester United’s training ground today to begin treatment on the hamstring injury he suffered in Asia while training with Manchester United. The footballer insisted yesterday that he was angry and confused by the way Manchester United have been treating him.

While Manchester United continue to play hardball with Wayne Rooney, The Telegraph newspaper is reporting that Rooney will be forced to hand in an official transfer request if he is to end his stand-off with Manchester United. By doing so, Manchester United will be free of any criticism that they let Rooney go. And it’ll allow other clubs to be more likely to put in bids for Rooney if they know he’s definitely leaving United, thus creating a bidding war for his services.

What’s your opinion about Chelsea’s bid for Rooney and, if true, that the club are willing to offload either Juan Mata or David Luiz? Plus, do you think it’s only a matter of time before Rooney leaves United? Is there any turning back at this point? Share your opinions in the comments section below.
