Liverpool have been aggressive in the summer transfer market, already spending over €200 million—and they may not be done yet. With Luis Diaz reportedly eyeing a €75 million move to Bayern Munich, the Reds are now said to be lining up a move for a Real Madrid star as a potential replacement.

After signing Florian Wirtz (€125M), Jeremie Frimpong (€40M), and Milos Kerkez (€47M), new manager Arne Slot appears determined to bolster the squad that won the Premier League last season but fell short in other competitions. However, Diaz—one of the team’s key contributors—has emerged as a serious candidate to leave Anfield this summer.

According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, Luis Diaz is keen to move on, despite Liverpool’s desire to keep him for at least another season. The club has already rejected a €67.5M bid from Bayern Munich, but the Bundesliga giants are expected to return with an improved offer worth €75 million.

Rodrygo identified as Diaz’s replacement

Should Díaz depart, Liverpool are reportedly eyeing Real Madrid’s Rodrygo as a direct replacement. According to Sky Germany‘s Florian Plettenberg, the Reds have not made a formal approach yet, but they are monitoring the Brazilian’s situation closely and are already aware of the financial terms and availability.

Rodrygo has delivered for Real Madrid in several clutch moments—most notably in the UEFA Champions League—but has struggled to cement a consistent place in the starting XI. With stars like Vinicius Junior, Kylian Mbappe, and Federico Valverde occupying attacking roles, the 24-year-old has often found himself on the periphery under Carlo Ancelotti.

That trend continued under new head coach Xabi Alonso. During Real Madrid’s campaign at the FIFA Club World Cup 2025, Rodrygo logged just 92 minutes across three appearances—despite Mbappé missing much of the tournament. He was an unused substitute in key matches against Juventus and Paris Saint-Germain.

Plettenberg reports that Real Madrid would be open to selling the winger, and Rodrygo is aware of the club’s stance. However, a deal won’t come cheap. The Brazilian has a staggering €1 billion release clause, and a Transfermarkt valuation of €90 million. He’s also reportedly earning up to €10 million net per season—making the potential move a major financial undertaking for Liverpool, who have already invested heavily this summer.
