Key Championship Fixtures: Easter Monday 2011

Easter Monday sees a full program of fixtures in the Npower Championship with most sides entering their final three games of the season.

With so few games left in the season, every game is important and every point vital in the battles for both relegation and promotion in the Championship.

ChampionshipTalk looks at the key fixtures this bank holiday Monday.

Crystal Palace v Leeds

Good Friday was frustrating for these two sides at polar ends of the table as they played out goalless draws against Doncaster and Reading respectively.

For Crystal Palace this maintained their status quo with Scunthorpe the side with the best chance of dragging the Eagles down to League One only able to match their draw.

However with Nottingham Forest and Burnley winning to draw level on points with Leeds, the Yorkshire side are embroiled in a three way battle for the final play off place.

In the context of the league Crystal Palace would probably settle for a draw, but for Leeds only victory will be enough to keep the travelling fans happy and their play off fate in their own hands.

Preston v Cardiff

Both sides will be desperate to win this fixture, with failure to win almost certainly relegating Preston or putting a huge dent in Cardiff’s automatic promotion challenge.

Victory for either side does not settle anything, but defeat would be devastating and a draw does nothing for either side.

Queens Park Rangers v Hull

Hull may have seen their playoff chances extinguished in the last couple of weeks, yet this fixture is about the possibility of a Queens Park Rangers promotion party.

Only a defeat and results elsewhere going against them will prolong the wait and delay celebrations.

A draw will all but secure promotion due to the club’s superior goal difference over closest rivals Cardiff and Norwich and victory will confirm promotion as champions.

I expect there to be a party at Loftus Road this Easter Monday.
